World No 5 Novak Djokovic‘s vaccination stance has been one of the hottest debates in 2022. It all started just a few hours prior to his match at the 2022 Australian Open since he was not allowed to play. His visa cancellation and deportation from Australia within a few hours caused a three-year visa ban, later overturned. The trauma was something unimaginable for the Serb as well as all tennis fans around the world.
Due to the vaccine not being taken, Djokovic was forced to skip all tournaments in the Australian leg and in the US. He failed to defend his title at Down Under. As he made a late start, he even couldn’t defend his title at the French Open. His absence from two Grand Slams impacted his overall rankings. He fell out of the Top 5 despite winning Wimbledon since there were no ranking points awarded by the ATP.
The Serb denied taking the vaccine nor had any intention of taking it in the future. Various people expressed their opinions regarding the former World No 1’s vaccination stance. After the news regarding his deportation broke out, his fans supported him. He also received support from most fellow players. But there were various accounts on Twitter that projected his stance as a piece of bad news.
It did not go down well with his supporters who believed that it had a hidden agenda to malign the player’s image. The 21-time Grand Slam champion’s supporters claimed that such accounts highlighted his bad news whereas good news was either suppressed or ignored. They went ahead to petition Elon Musk for a proper investigation on such a matter that had been ignored.

People on social media criticized the media for staying silent on such a critical issue. The Wimbledon champion’s fans feel that Elon Musk would surely take appropriate action against such propaganda which is caused either by hate or jealousy.

After a lot of deliberation, the federal Government removed its ban and granted Novak Djokovic permission to play. The 35-year-old is optimistic that he would be able to continue his dominance in Australia and would receive a warm welcome. He makes his return after a year and would be aiming for his record tenth title at the Australian Open. Though Australia has allowed him to take part in Down Under, the US Government stands strong on its decision.
