21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has been in good form on the Tour. Currently playing in the 2022 Paris Masters, the defending champion is already in the quarter-finals of the final Masters event of the season. The Serb is looking for his second Masters title of the season and his fifth title of the season.
Djokovic won the Paris Masters last year and had his son Stefan and daughter Tara in attendance during the finals. The former World No. 1 went on to celebrate his title with the kids in the audience and the Serb was once again quizzed on his family at this year’s event.
While Stefan has followed in the footsteps of his father and uncles in pursuing tennis, Tara’s interest in the sport was yet not known. Djokovic, however, detailed how his daughter continues to shift between hobbies and how he has not enforced any decision on her.
“My daughter started playing a few times a week with her friends from the school and from ballet dancing. She’s more into ballet, and she’s a real girl and I love that about her. She’s kind of flashy with tennis. You know, sometimes she wants to play, sometimes she’s really not interested.
“So of course, both of them have full freedom to enjoy and to choose what they want to do. So I think it’s important for them to be active. I mean, from my point of view, mom is more responsible for the intellectual side and books and taking care of their brain.
“I’m more responsible for the movement and for their physical development that is affecting, of course, everything else,” said Djokovic during a press interaction following his win over Karen Khachanov in the round of 16 in Bercy.
Novak Djokovic discloses who is the stricter parent between him and his wife Jelena
Djokovic further talked about the parenting style of him and his wife Jelena. “I’m just glad to see them being active and being outdoors. For me, that’s a key. Who is the stricter parent? I think, you know, I’m really pleased with the kind of communication that we have as parents between us, and also with our children and the relationship that we nurture with our children is, we treat them as adults,” added the Serb.
Djokovic further explained how the couple tries to treat their kids as adults by explaining things instead of imposing their own decisions on them. He admitted that he and Jelena are still learning how to be better parents and often take advice from their parents to get to their kids.
