Novak Djokovic scripted history at the recently concluded US Open as he lifted a record-extending 24th Grand Slam title. With the win, Djokovic also secured his 3rd Grand Slam of the year for the third time in his career, equalling Roger Federer‘s record. The world no.1 also earned the distinction of being the oldest man (36) to win the US Open in the Open Era.
The Serb had no time to rest on his laurels as in a quick turnover he helped Serbia reach the Davis Cup last 8 to be played in Malaga in November. Djokovic continued his winning ways with a 6-3, 6-4 Davis Cup win against Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Djokovic’s victory in Valencia clinched the tie for Serbia.
Novak discussed his plans for the season ahead as he prepared to play in the Ryder Cup celebrity all-star match. “The Grand Slam season is over but we have another few months until the end of the season. I’m going to be playing in Paris-Bercy, one of the tournaments of the Masters 1000 category for us. A really important one obviously on the ATP Tour, the biggest one,” he said. The Paris masters is the final masters event of the calendar and begins on 30th October. The 36-year old has won the tournament record 6 times. In the last edition of the tournament, in 2022, he was defeated by the Norwegian Holger Rune in a close 3-setter.
“And then the last 8 World Tour Finals in Italy and then to finish off with Davis Cup for Serbia, for my country. That’s the big goal for the end of the season. We’re in quarter-finals in the play-off so I’m hoping that we can get our hands on that trophy,” Djokovic added. The ATP Finals start on the 12th November and will be played in Turin, Italy. Djokovic has won joint most ATP Finals (6) alongside his long-term rival Roger Federer.
At the Davis Cup, Novak Djokovic’s Serbia will face Great Britain in the last 8. All eyes would be on a potential encounter between Djokovic and Andy Murray. The head-to-head heavily favors the Serb as he has won 25 of the 36 matches played between the two. Djokovic helped Serbia lift the Davis Cup in 2010. Serbia came from 1–2 down to defeat France in the final tie 3–2 in Belgrade to win the nation’s first Davis Cup championship. In the final, Djokovic scored two singles points for Serbia, defeating Gilles Simon and Gaël Monfils.

Novak Djokovic talks about his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz
Novak Djokovic has built up a strong rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz over the past year. The pair have faced each other 4 times with 2 of them becoming instant classics. Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in a 5-set marathon match in the final of Wimbledon earlier this year to lift his 2nd Grand Slam title. Djokovic got his revenge soon after as he defeated the Spaniard to lift the Cincinnati Masters trophy. The 3-set match lasted 4 hours, the longest for a Masters 1000 final.

Asked if the young Spaniard is giving him extra hunger and motivation, Djokovic replied “He is, I mean he’s not the only one. There are some great young players coming up. Tennis’ future is looking good with Carlos leading the field.” Djokovic further went on to call the Cincinnati final as one of the best 3-set match he has ever played.
Alcaraz will return to the tour, for the first time since his semi final exit in the US Open, at the ATP 500 China Open. Seeded 1st for the tournament, the Spaniard faces the German pro Yannick Hanfmann in the first round.
