Novak Djokovic to take a tumble from the top spot, Alexander Zverev set to climb the ranking ladder after the conclusion of the French Open 2022
Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic
Alexander Zverev has reached the semifinal of the French Open twice in two years. He lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in 2021 and will play Rafael Nadal in an attempt to reach his second Grand Slam final. Zverev has been a consistent performer on the tour, but he was never able to defeat ATP top 10 players in Grand Slams until his quarterfinal victory against the young world number 6, Carlos Alcaraz.
With his brilliant performance at Roland Garros and Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev‘s loss in the quarterfinal and the fourth round respectively, he is all set to become the world number two on June 13th ranking, even if he loses his semifinal match against Rafa. Novak Djokovic was the on-paper favorite against Rafa in their quarterfinal encounter but was easily taken down by the thirteen-time French Open winner.
Medvedev on the other hand was handed a thumping loss by Marin Cilic in the fourth-round of the French Open, but Medvedev is assure the top spot on June 13th, unless Zverev wins the French Open title, in that case Djokovic will lose his spot to Zverev and at best will be ranked number 3 in the world.
Alexander Zverev to be the top seed at Wimbledon 2022.
Novak Djokovic will fall from the top spot and his fall is set to continue with Wimbledon being stripped of the ranking points. Zverev will reach the career high ranking of world number 2, in all cases and will become the second man after Daniil Medvedev to enter the top 2 since 2005, outside of the Big four.
Zverev will be ranked at-least number 2 in the world, while Djokovic could be the number 3 at best and with Wimbledon imposing ban on the Russian and Belarusian players, Daniil Medvedev would be absent from the Championships. All this would mean that Zverev will be the top seed at the Wimbledon 2022.
There’s another interesting scenario where Rafael Nadal having won the Australian Open 2022 could win the French Open 2022, and the Wimbledon 2022 and still be ranked number 3 in the world because the Wimbledon was stripped of their ranking points.
