Novak Djokovic recently shared a highlight reel of his pre-season training campaign on Instagram. The Serb decided to have his pre-season in Dubai this time, as he is going to have an exhibition match on December 27 in Saudi Arabia against Carlos Alcaraz. The training montage clearly shows that besides rigorous training, Novak Djokovic and his team had a lot of fun in the pre-season.

The two top players have agreed to play the match due to the huge amount of money that has been offered to them. Djokovic and Alcaraz are the two top names in the world of tennis now and the sporting chiefs of Saudi Arabia wanted to host them in their country at any cost as they are currently aiming to become the new center for all sports across the globe.

The exact sum that has been promised to the players is not known yet. However, Roger Federer received about $1 million for a similar match a few years ago, and both Alcaraz and Djokovic are expected to get much more than that this time. The match will be played at the Kingdom Arena, which has a capacity of 40,000 fans and is part of the Riyadh season events.

Apart from them, Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur were also involved. They already played their match against each other on January 26, in which the Belarusian emerged victorious. Sabalenka won the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Novak Djokovic talks about Saudi Arabia’s involvement in Sports

The introduction of LIV Golf, which is completely owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, has completely revolutionized the sport of golf, and the Arab state now literally runs the sport. Djokovic has said that as tennis is an individual sport that can be compared to golf in many ways, it should take lessons from what happened before and after the creation of LIV Golf.

I think that we, as individual sports on a global level, are probably closest to golf in terms of how we see sports. I think from that example we can probably learn a lot, some positives and some negatives, and try to structure a deal if it’s going in that direction in a proper way that is going to protect the integrity, tradition and history of this sport, but still be able to grow it in such a way that it will be appropriate.
Djokovic said. (H/T: Tennis365)

The Serb runs the PTPA that works for the rights of the players. Thus, his stand on Saudi Arabia’s involvement in tennis might have major implications for the future of the sport. Besides, he is hands down one of the biggest names in tennis right now.
