Novak Djokovic‘s recent performance has been a cause for concern among fans and experts alike. Despite being the world No. 1, Djokovic’s early loss in Monte-Carlo and two wins in two tournaments for his comeback on clay have not provided the reassurance he needed.
Adding to the worry is the right elbow injury that Djokovic has been facing, which has not acted up in years. The injury has raised questions about whether the tennis star is at his best form for the upcoming tournaments. “I had my chances, but I didn’t take them. I played quite passively, with many mistakes and that resulted in the defeat”, Novak said.
Djokovic’s performance in his recent two matches has not been his best either, leaving fans with no real reason for optimism. As Djokovic continues to struggle with the rustiness that comes with a long break from the sport, it has become harder for him to get through the first weeks on the red clay.
As a player who doesn’t have the heaviest forehand or the heaviest spin on it, Djokovic’s struggles on clay are not surprising. However, with the competition only getting tougher, Djokovic will need to step up his game if he hopes to secure any titles in the upcoming tournaments.
Novak Djokovic suffers shocking defeat to fellow Serb for the first time in 11 years
In a stunning upset at the Srpska Open, Novak Djokovic was defeated by his fellow Serb, Dusan Lajovic, in the quarterfinals on Friday. This marks the first time in 11 years that Djokovic has lost to a Serb countryman, with his previous defeat coming at the hands of Janko Tipsarevic in Madrid back in 2012.
Lajovic secured his victory with a 6-4, 7-6 (6) win over the world’s top-ranked player. He described the triumph as the “biggest win” of his career, and the victory was particularly meaningful as he was playing in front of his hometown crowd. Throughout the match, Djokovic struggled to convert his break chances, managing to convert only one of his 16 opportunities. Additionally, he missed three set points in the tiebreaker, allowing Lajovic to secure the win.
Despite the loss, Djokovic remained gracious in defeat, praising his opponent’s performance and expressing his happiness for Lajovic’s victory. Djokovic now looks ahead to the Madrid Open next week, where he will undoubtedly be looking to regain his form and secure a victory after suffering his third loss of the year.
