Novak Djokovic is one of the fiercest competitors on the court. He plays to win and expects nothing less than full effort to beat him in return from his opponents. The 21-time Grand Slam champion played a tough match against Stefanos Tsitsipas but is ready to face the challenge of young Dane Holger Rune.
The veteran was ecstatic after winning the match against the Greek. He defeated the World No.5 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) in a tough battle in the Paris Masters tournament.
The 35-year-old elaborated upon how he managed to win against the Greek in the semi-final of the Paris Masters, in a post-match interview.
“I thought I started the match very, very well. Again, great hitting like yesterday in the quarters. Had chances early on in the second, I didn’t break his serve, the momentum shifted, the crowd got into it you know, and I think he elevated his level of tennis. And deservedly so, both of us went into an even battle all the way until the last point, the last shot. Some incredible points at the end, I’m just really glad to overcome this challenge,” he said.
Novak Djokovic is the defending champion of the Paris Masters. He is in the final again and he has some advice for Holger Rune who is playing in the final of an ATP 1000 tournament for first time in his career.
“Tomorrow he’s gonna have a tough battle if he wants to win. We are obviously good friends off the court but on the court we are professionals, we want to win, so I’m sure he’s going to be very excited to play in his first finals,” he further added.
Both of the players know each other very well. The 19-year-old has trained with the Serb previously.
“He’s a great guy, I love him. I think he’s really good for tennis, he tries his best, he’s a fantastic fighter, competitor. We get along very well, we trained a lot in Monaco and I know his family, really nice family, and he deserves all his success,” the Serbian praised Rune.
