Novak Djokovic’s diet consciousness caused a global shortage of rare donkey cheese as he bought out the entire farm
Djokovic bought the entire supply of donkey cheese, valued at £1,000 per kg, from a tiny town in Serbia

Donkey’s cheese seems an unusual investment, but not for Novak Djokovic. With only five Grand Slam titles to his name, the Serbian bought almost all of the cheese supply in 2012. Known for its rarity and richness, donkey’s cheese is only produced in Zasavica Special Nature Reserve, about one hour away from Belgrade.
As a result, Djokovic was eager to purchase the pule due to its popularity. The Serbian cheese was brought to his attention by the reserve manager himself. The World No.1 made the expenditure to apparently source his own restaurant. Rumors speculate that Djoko bought the farm as well as the entirety of the supply as well.
In December 2012, reports that Djokovic had purchased the entire farm’s worth of supply for 2013 surfaced. However, the player contended the notion. “It is not completely true that we bought the whole supply of donkey cheese,” said the 35-year-old. “They came to our restaurant and they offered the operation.”
The 22-time Grand Slam champion bought the entire stock to reportedly aid his gluten-free diet. Equipped with beneficial health properties, the world’s most expensive cheese is priced at £1,000 per kg. An undeterred Djokovic used up his wealth to exhaust the supply without even tasting it. “As I understand it, it is incredible quality,” he added at the time. “I have not tried it yet, but I am looking forward to it”.
Pule genuinely lives up to its name owing to its production method. Merely one kilogram comprises twenty-five liters of donkey milk as well as a proportion of goat’s milk. The elaborate labor, hence, justifies the price of the cheese. At the end of the day, it is Djokovic who has filled his pockets by investing in the business as early as he did.
Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune practice together ahead of Monte Carlo Masters

Djokovic and Holger Rune have always got along. The two players have crossed paths twice while on tour. Djokovic beat the Dane in four sets in the opening round of the 2021 US Open. However, the 19-year-old got back at the Serb at the 2022 Paris Masters, where he defeated Djokovic to clinch his maiden ATP 1000 title.
Ahead of a potential clash at Monte Carlo, the duo was spotted dirtying their shoes in the clay. The pair also recreated an old picture while practicing for the opening clay tournament of the season. The Monte Carlo Masters is set to begin next week, on April 17.
