A video of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, making derogatory comments towards Novak Djokovic and his family during his appearance on RTS studio, rapidly spread across social media platforms. Dodik commented on the proceedings at the recently concluded Serbian Open held in Banja Luka. Following the circulation of the video, Dodik publicly expressed regret and issued an apology.
“I am sorry that I experienced disappointment in RTS on this occasion. I will continue to respect and appreciate the success of the inimitable Novak Djokovic and to respect and appreciate his family as before. We will finalize all agreements regarding the ‘Serbian Open’ tournament.” Dodik said.
Dodik conveyed his appreciation for having the chance to observe Djokovic’s managerial and leadership skills after the Serbian Open concluded in Banja Luka. He also apologized for any harm his statements, which he made while appearing on RTS studio, may have caused the Djokovic family.
He further expressed his disappointment in how the network handled the situation and thanked them for his sleepless night. Dodik expressed his admiration for Novak Djokovic, both as a sportsman and as a person, and wished him and his family good luck, as well as success to Srđan and Đorđe in all their future endeavors.
Carlos Alcaraz poses a threat to Novak Djokovic’s milestone quest
Ranked first in the world, Novak Djokovic is approaching an impressive achievement, as he has spent 384 weeks on top of the ATP throne, only 16 weeks away from a major milestone. To focus on recovering from pain in his right hand, the Serbian player chose not to participate in the Madrid Masters this week, intending to be fit for the upcoming Rome and Roland Garros tournaments.
Despite his absence, Djokovic maintains a comfortable lead on the live ATP ranking list, with a 1005-point advantage over Carlos Alcaraz. Even if Alcaraz manages to defend his title at Caja Magica, Djokovic will remain the world no. 1. However, Alcaraz’s recent victory in the Barcelona Open allows him to remain a contender for the top spot, but he will need to maintain his good form in Madrid.
In the event of Alcaraz’s victory in Madrid, he may surpass Djokovic in the ATP rankings and claim the world no. 1 spot after the Rome tournament, where Djokovic had previously won and earned 1000 ATP points. Nonetheless, Djokovic will still hold the top spot for three additional weeks, bringing his total weeks on top to 387.
