Novak Djokovic will be making yet another appearance at the year-end championships as he is qualified for the 2022 ATP Finals. Djokovic was one of the early confirmed candidates following the confirmation of a Top-20 finish this year. That along with his victory in Wimbledon this year was enough to have him qualified.

The rule however isn’t the same on the WTA Tour. As a result, reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina is not playing in the WTA Finals this year. The rule is not however known to many including 2016 Olympics single Gold medalist Monica Puig and her inquisitiveness proved costly for her on Twitter.

In case the rule was identical on both Tours, Rybakina’s failure to surge into the Top 20 would have anyway resulted in her disqualification. Puig’s tweets however got on the nerves of Djokovic’s fans as they ‘explained’ the rulebook to her clearing all her doubts on the qualification criteria.

To Djokovic‘s credit, despite being banned due to his non-vaccinated status, he has been brilliant in whatever tournament he has played. Djokovic is 35-7 for the season and going into the 2022 Paris Masters, the Serb has won 3 titles from 4 tournaments he has played including the Wimbledon.

As for Rybakina, since the Wimbledon, she reached only 1 final where she finished runner-up. Apart from that, she reached only 1 semi-final. While the 2000 ranking points from winning the Wimbledon would have helped her cause massively, the ace machine from Kazakhastan could not capitalize on her form from the Championships.

With a plethora of tweets coming at her, Puig had to put out multiple tweets in self-defense. The Puerto Rican had to explain how she did not hold any grudge against Djokovic and it was a genuine doubt from her end. Fans however remained dubious of her intentions.
