Novak Djokovic, Mike Bryan

Serbian tennis icon Novak Djokovic just surpassed the all-time record of Steffi Graf for the most weeks at the top of the rankings. The 35-year-old already has the record for most weeks as the World No. 1 in the ATP rankings. Now, with 378 weeks at the top, Djokovic topped the combined list of men and women.

On July 2011, Djokovic rose to the summit for the first time. Since then, he has not looked back. In March 2021, almost a decade later, he bettered the record of Swiss Maestro Roger Federer’s record of 310 weeks. Now he has moved past Graf by beginning his 378th week and many more on the way.

Despite the monumental achievement, Djokovic did not have a smooth ride in his career. At least off the court. There are many critics who have consistently tried to discredit the Serb in every possible way.

Ben Rothenberg, the famous tennis journalist, took a dig at those critics of Novak with his sarcastic comment on Twitter. In a mocking way, he mentioned how the path of Djokovic is going to get tougher as the doubles record of Mike Bryan for 506 weeks as the World No. 1 would be the next target for the 22-time Grand Slam champion.

Rothenberg just mocked those who believe that the Serb is yet to prove himself. “Things complicated for Novak Djokovic, as you may’ve heard, but he never meaningfully stopped being ATP’s best player and surpassed Graf’s pro singles record today with his 378th week at #1,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Next target, if he wants it? Mike Bryan has a whopping 506 weeks at ATP #1 in doubles,” Rothernberg’s caption read further. Social media users wasted no time responding to the comments of the journalist. Most of them tried to school the journalist.

One user even mentioned that the doubles game is nothing when compared to singles. “And then when he reaches Mike Bryan, suddenly table tennis and badminton records will be there in conversation,” another user wrote. Take a look at some of the interesting tweets.
