Novak Djokovic’s former coach Marian Vajda is now a full-time coach of Alex Molcan, according to RTVS. Before Molcan’s Extraliga match, the two had their first training session together in Bratislava.

Molcan started the season by reaching the quarterfinals of the Melbourne Summer Set, where he lost to Ruusuvuori. He then exited the Australian Open in the second round. After suffering a first-round exit at the Open Sud de France, Molcan suffered second-round eliminations at the Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships. He then reached his first final of the season at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech, beating top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime en route. However, the 24-year-old lost to David Goffin in the summit clash despite winning the first set. Afterwards, he lost to Casper Ruud in the second round of the Munich Open in three sets.

Clearly, the Slovak has had a mixed year, and he will undoubtedly look forward to bringing out the best in himself under the direction of the Veteran coach.

Earlier Djokovic said that it would be hard to see his coach Marian Vajda coaching someone else while he’s playing. “It’s hard for me to imagine Marjan coaching someone else at this moment while I’m still playing,” he said.

Novak Djokovic split with his long-time coach Marian Vajda at the end of the 2021 season, ending one of tennis’s most enduring and successful partnerships, the Serbian world No.1 said. The announcement of the change came one day after Djokovic dropped out of the No. 1 ranking for the first time in two years, sliding to No. 2 behind Daniil Medvedev. Djokovic’s 361 total weeks atop the ATP are a record, as are his seven times finishing a season at No. 1. Slovak Vajda has been a near-constant through Djokovic’s career, helping him to 20 Grand Slam titles and an unprecedented 361 weeks as the top-ranked player. However, he will now guide Alex Molcan just like he guided the Serb through numerous achievements.
