World No. 2 Novak Djokovic‘s relationship with the Wimbledon crowd in London was quite bad at the time, says former tennis player Tatiana Golovin. Golovin feels that though Djokovic has been doing great on the field, he is also communicating with the public in a negative way.
Djokovic, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, is a controversial figure in the tennis world. From his stance on vaccination, for which he even skipped Grand Slam events, to his father being captured in a video with pro-Russian supporters, Djokovic has invited a lot of criticism.
The Serb has often said that the jeers at him from the crowd motivate him to do better, which is why he feels he keeps winning matches. But Golovin is disappointed with Djokovic’s anger toward the public. Djokovic arrived at the All England Club as a favorite to win his eighth Wimbledon trophy, and instead of being a crowd favorite, he gets booed a lot.
“It’s quite fantastic what he is doing on the field and finally it’s quite disappointing to see him communicate in such a negative way with the public. But once again he needs to find this motivation within him, to find this rage within him precisely to be as efficient, as determined, as diligent and focused on each point,” Golovin said on bEIN Sports.
During his match against Australia’s Jordan Thompson, the 36-year-old looked distracted due to the loud jeering at the Centre Court. This angered him a lot, and he admitted that though their jeers are not new to him, sometimes it’s harder for him to accept their behavior.

Novak Djokovic to play against Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round
Djokovic has successfully reached the fourth round at the Wimbledon Championships. He will next face Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the last 16 on Sunday (July 9). In the previous rounds, he knocked out Pedro Cachin, Jordan Thompson, and Stan Wawrinka in straight sets. In the third set, though Wawrinka looked to be threatening before the match, the Serb broke no sweat while beating the Swiss player with scores of 6-3, 6-1, and 7-6 (7-5).
Djokovic has faced Hober Hurkacz five times, winning all of them. Their last match was at the Dubai Open in 2023, where Djokovic emerged victorious with a 6-3, 7-5 win.
