In a recent episode of her podcast, former coach of Serena Williams, Rennae Stubbs, offered her insights into the exceptional mindset of tennis legend Novak Djokovic. Stubbs highlighted Djokovic’s unparalleled dedication to the sport and his relentless pursuit of records. She asserted that these qualities make him the ‘best’ player in the world. Even if he may not be as popular as his peers, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
At 36 years old, he has achieved a historic milestone by clinching his 24th Grand Slam title. He has firmly established himself as one of the greatest tennis players in history. Despite his remarkable success, Stubbs suggested that Djokovic’s determination to accumulate more titles stems from a profound desire to solidify his legacy.
“I think Roger and Rafa really embodied the desire to win a lot, but Novak is obsessive, and it shows,” Stubbs commented. Djokovic’s fixation with winning and setting records, she said, is a driving factor in his career. He aspires to outperform not just his own achievements, but also those of his great contemporaries, Federer and Nadal.
Djokovic’s continuous quest for numerical superiority is motivated by his realization that he may not be as well-known around the world as Federer and Nadal. “I think he thinks: ‘yes, they may be more popular than me, but I will always be the biggest, and I will always have more records than them,'” she continued, “So he doesn’t care, and I admire him for that.“

Stubbs applauds Djokovic’s remarkable skill regardless of personal feelings
Stubbs, alongside Caitlin Thompson, delved into the 2023 US Open and provided insightful analysis. Notably, they discussed Djokovic’s astounding achievement of capturing his 24th Grand Slam title, a feat that has not gone unnoticed.
Stubbs emphasized that Djokovic’s level of skill and performance is undeniably remarkable. She underscored that regardless of personal feelings towards the Serbian tennis legend, his prowess on the court is awe-inspiring. Djokovic has defied claims of fatigue and aging, consistently outperforming players much younger than him.
No matter what you think about Novak, if you love him, if you hate him, this guy is unbelievable! He makes these 20-year-olds and 25-year-olds and 27-year-olds look like they have never worked out their whole life,” Stubbs said.
Stubbs hosts The Power Hour on Amazon Prime and runs the highly-regarded ‘The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast‘.
