The Tel Aviv Watergen Open tennis tournament’s organizers announced the postponement of this year’s event. The decision is taken as a result of the current Israel-Palestine conflict. This puts Novak Djokovic‘s title defense in jeopardy. The event, which was scheduled to take place from November 5 to 11, has been called off due to the instability in the area.

In a highly competitive tournament, Djokovic emerged as the champion in the Tel Aviv Open the year before. However, due to the recent escalation of hostilities in the region, the event is expected to be postponed until 2024, with organizers prioritizing safety. The ongoing conflict has tragically resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives on both the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

“[The organizers] will continue in their efforts to hold the event next year to afford the ticketholders to enjoy this sporting event. The organizers pray for the recovery of the injured and share in the grief of the bereaved families in these dark days,” the statement read.
