Novak Djokovic’s post-match conference after he lost to Lorenzo Musetti (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) in the Round of 16 at the Monte-Carlo Masters was not one to cherish. A very disappointed-looking Djokovic did not answer any questions professionally. His replies were very curt and short to most questions. Djokovic kept cutting the journalists off in the middle of their questions. Also, at times, he was looking at his shoes or touching his face to show his disinterest and disappointment.
“I’m Okay. I’m fine. Congrats to him. We move on,” was Djokovic’s response when a reporter asked him to expand more on how he felt after the defeat. Djokovic also said that “I am not playing so great… Feeling is bad right now because I lost the match.” Expressing his indifference during the interview, Novak Djokovic said, “Its not a great day for me so I am not really in a mood to speak.”
Eurosport tweeted the interview on their handle and tennis fans were quick to express their disapproval of the interview. Fans expect more professionalism from Novak Djokovic, who is considered one of the greatest tennis players. In the past, Djokovic has attached high importance to press conference when Naomi Osaka refused to do a conference at the French Open 2021. At the time, Novak had said, “Press conference are part of the sport.” No wonder then that he received a lot of flak from tennis fans for his interview.

Twitterati’s react to Novak Djokovic’s un-sportsmanship
When Eurosport tweeted the interview, they set their handle on a frenzy with people ridiculing the World no.1 for his lackluster interview. Some called him out for being a ‘sore loser’ and others pinned this as a reason why Djokovic is not liked universally. A few others used this as a premise to prove why is not comparable to Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer. Here are some of the interesting tweets.
But some hardcore fans of Novak Djokovic came out to support him too, saying this is completely normal. It’s difficult to feel normal and respond to such questions when one is already down in the dumps after playing and losing badly. Some followers compared him to Rafael Nadal and said at least he gives credit to his opponents and does not blame the loss on injuries. Other fans also said he will be back in better form for other clay court tournaments, especially Roland Garros.
With Djokovic’s upset, the Monte Carlo Open is poised for a great result and the crowning of a young champion. Though fans can’t wait to see more of that crisp Novak Djokovic action next at the Barcelona Open.
