For fans who know a thing or two about Novak Djokovic’s father, Srdjan Djokovic is no stranger to making controversial statements. Srdjan Djokovic was seemingly unhappy when his son was not allowed to compete at US Open 2022 due to the covid-19 vaccination requirements. In his fresh set of statements, the 61-year-old has suspected foul play which has led to Novak Djokovic missing the final major of the year.

Novak Djokovic claimed his 21st major title at Wimbledon 2022, when he defeated Nick Kyrgios in a four-set battle. His father believes that the US Open authorities purposely stopped the Serbian from competing at the Flushing Meadows, in order to prevent him from winning the title.

Srdjan Djokovic seemed to be puzzled with the decision of not allowing his son to compete in Melbourne and New York. However, the former world number one did manage to compete at the French Open and Wimbledon 2022.

Srdjan Djokovic has always come out in support of his son, and this time it was no different.  ”It’s a puzzle to me how they didn’t let him play in Melbourne and New York, but they let him play in London. I do not know. Novak probably showed them that he was the best at Wimbledon, so they stopped him from going to New York,” said Srdjan.

Novak Djokovic has not been able to play much competitive tennis this year, given the covid-19 vaccination requirements. Despite all the setbacks, Novak Djokovic did manage to add another major to his tally which helps him maintain the pace with Rafael Nadal.

Novak Djokovic is also eligible to compete at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin next week. The Serbian has been placed in the same group as former champions, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The former world number was handed a three-set defeat in the finals of the Paris Masters last week, which brought an end to his 13-match winning streak.

Novak Djokovic has claimed five Nitto ATP Finals titles, with his first triumph coming way back in 2008. He dominated the tournament for four straight years from 2012-2015.
