The umpire did not even try to intervene, and the matter was taken to the supervisors. In the end, Borges was robbed of a point, and the fans fired in with criticism against the umpire and Garin. They went against the umpire for not making a timely decision and the player for his unsportsmanship-like attitude regarding the point.

When the match was in an interesting phase, the point was blindly given to Garin, which was highly effective and might have caused Portugal the match.

However, it was not enough. Borges fell short of the finish line, as the Chilean pulled off a smart second-set victory to win the match. It was not Borges’ day; he was unlucky throughout the match. The free point given away might have helped him stay in the game, but unfortunately, the Portuguese lost the match, concluding his stay in Portugal.
