In a dramatic turn of events, American tennis doubles player Jack Sock who has won several accolades in his career so far, announced that he will retire after the 2023 US Open. Sock announced that he would make his last dance at the Flushing Meadows.
The Olympic gold medalist who has won a massive 16 doubles ATP titles in his career that spanned for over a decade made the announcement on Sunday. While Sock did not reveal in his retirement post that he will be switching to pickleball, reports are rife that the 30-year-old has signed a deal with PPA tour.
“To the 8-year-old boy who immediately fell in love with the sport of tennis. I hope I made you proud,” Sock posted on Instagram. “It’s been 14 years of memories I will never forget. From winning four Grand Slams, Olympic Gold and Bronze, Top 10 rankings in singles and doubles, and competing on the Davis Cup and Laver Cup teams, it’s been beyond what I could’ve ever dreamed.”
Not just doubles, Sock also had a decent career in singles. The American won four singles titles including the Paris Masters in 2017. He also reached a career-high ranking of No.8 in 2017. The American has so far won a whopping USD 11.9 million. Now, the 30-year-old will try his hands at pickleball which has gained popularity in the recent past.
Can Jock Sock make his and John Isner’s retirement memorable?
Having dominated the doubles circuit for a good enough period now, Jack Sock has decided to look beyond tennis. But before he quits, the 30-year-old has a chance to not only make his retirement memorable but also his doubles partner at the 2023 US Open, John Isner. The latter also recently announced that he will retire from professional tennis after the year’s last Grand Slam.
The two Americans will partner at the 2023 US Open in the hope of making it count. Sock knows what it takes to lift the title having won it in 2018. Jack Sock had also won the Wimbledon that year. Although Sock is not in his best shape this year, the American can try to end things on a high.
