Tunisian ace Ons Jabeur admitted to playing ugly against Marketa Vondrousova at the WTA Finals to avenge her Wimbledon finals defeat against the Czech. Jabeur revealed that she has a Plan B- slicing every ball and playing drop shots every now and then- ready if her main plan did not work. And it worked for the Tunisian as Jabeur beat Vondrousova in straight sets of 6-4, 6-3.

With this win, Ons Jabeur kept her hopes to qualify for the semifinals well and truly alive. Iga Swiatek beating Coco Gauff also worked in the Tunisian’s favor. But more than others, Jabeur herself made things go in her favor. The World No.7 made her opponent sweat hard for every single point even when things seemed to go against her.

And after the match, Jabeur revealed how she did it. The Tunisian said that her main plan against the Czech ace was to hit as hard as possible. But then, if it did not work, she also had a backup plan ready- to slice every ball.

I mean the plan was honestly to put pressure on Marketa, and try to hit as hard as possible. And Plan B was to, if it's (Plan A) not working then I am going to slice every shot and try some drop shots, some, I call them sh***y balls because it could bother a lot of players. But Marketa has the hands and it could be tricky with her. I am glad that I could mix it up a bit.

Ons Jabeur to face Iga Swiatek in her next match at WTA Finals

Ons Jabeur has won and lost a match each at the 2023 WTA Finals so far. While she went down against reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff, the Tunisian saved herself from getting knocked out with a dominant win over Vondrousova. Her qualification now depends on how Jabeur plays against Iga Swiatek, whom she faces in her final group-stage match.

The two players have met six times so far on the tour and the Polish ace has enjoyed an upper hand. Swiatek leads the head-to-head record between the two players 4-2. The World No.2 also won the match when the two players met last time (for a full match) which was at the 2023 US Open. Swiatek had won the game 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Jabeur is well aware of her matchup with Swiatek and hence is prepared. The Tunisian has said that she will try to play freely and will look to enjoy the game.

Iga is a very smart person and she knows how to adapt to these conditions. I'm gonna try to enjoy this game. Try to play freely. Try to let go of some of the anger that I have and hope for the best. It's definitely not going to be an easy match, but I will try my best.
