Jabeur recently expressed her support for the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) Finals, being held in Saudi Arabia. Jabeur’s position differs from earlier concerns made regarding Saudi Arabia’s hosting of women’s sports events. She supports the country’s developing approach to change and advancement.

The ATP’s choice to stage the NextGen ATP Finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, prompted Jabeur’s comments. While the Gulf state has come under fire for its human rights record in the context of hosting numerous athletic events, the tennis star’s viewpoint underlines her faith in the country’s progressive trajectory.

Due to expected constraints, WTA CEO Steve Simon had previously expressed misgivings about Saudi Arabia hosting women’s circuit events. Concerns have been raised by rights groups and international observers about the country’s performance on human rights issues.

However, Jabeur’s points of view are unique. The Tunisian athlete’s observations are based on her firsthand experience, as she described her visit to the country a year ago. She stated that she got the opportunity to interact with ‘wonderful women’ during her stay. She even attempted to support the growth of tennis in the country. Her interactions with Saudi women had a favorable impact on her, which contributed to her hopeful outlook on the country’s progress.

Furthermore, Jabeur stated that if she were to qualify for the event, she would consider it an honor to compete in the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia. The 28-year-old believes that such an opportunity will not only allow her to demonstrate her tennis skills but will also help her to inspire and connect with other women.
