World No. 5, Ons Jabeur extended her support to the top seed, Iga Swiatek, after she admitted in a press conference that she received hate comments for losing the first set against her opponent, Qinwen Zheng. The 28-year-old took a swing at the haters and called them out for hurling hurtful comments.

Post her clash with her opponent, Swiatek said, “Today’s match wasn’t perfect. We all saw that. But the amount of hate and criticism me and my team get after losing a set is ridiculous.” She appeared sad and further added that she wanted to encourage people to be more thoughtful when they comment on the Internet and that she had faced similar issues when she lost the finals at Dubai.“I was pretty proud of my results but people really just saw the last match and that I lost in the final and they shouldn’t,” Swiatek said.

“I’m glad Iga’s talking about it. You win, you lose, you get hate messages no matter what you do,” Ons Jabeur said while taking a dig at the haters. “We need more humanity & nice people on this earth, but I don’t think you can change the mentality of some bettors. They have nothing to do in their life. They’re just spending money on you, & probably they lost a couple of bucks on Iga losing a set.”

The Tunisian tennis star further stated, “I know Iga. She’s strong. Those people are horrible & there are horrible people on this planet. What do we do? We move on. They get criticized in media conferences like this & we move on,” encouraging Iga to ignore the haters and move on.

Though the Tunisian tennis star had a great run at the Western & Southern Open this year, Ons Jabeur tasted defeat at the hands of World No. 2, Aryna Sabalenka in the Quarter-final round of the Tournament. The 28-year-old lost to Sabalenka in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) as Jabeur had to call for the trainer in the middle of the second set.

The two had clashed merely a month ago at the Wimbledon Semi-finals. In a thrilling encounter, the 28-year-old had managed to turn the match around in the middle of a set to reach the Finals, beating her Belarusian opponent 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3. Last year, Jabeur soared to the top of the WTA Rankings after she managed to reach the Finals of Wimbledon as well as the US Open.
