Ons Jabeur is ready to take on the current World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the semi-final round of the WTA Stuttgart Open 2023. Both the players competed against each other many times last season but this is their first encounter of this year.
Both the ladies started their 2023 season on a difficult note. While Ons Jabeur was struggling with fitness issues, Iga Swiatek was looking out of touch. Their struggles became apparent at the Australian Open 2023. While, Ons Jabeur was knocked out in the second round of the tournament after losing to Marketa Vondrousova, Iga Swiatek lost to eventual finalist Elena Rybakina in the fourth round.
However, after that Ons Jabeur has found her form and won first WTA title at Charleston. Hence, Ons Jabeur has gained some valuable confidence and belief that she can defeat Iga Swiatek in the tournament. Also, Iga Swiatek is not in the kind of dominant form she was in last year.
“You know, the good thing maybe, Iga is not at the same level as she was last year. I’m gonna really focus on playing like I played her on grass at Wimbledon. I think I’m moving well. I’m playing good tennis on this court. We focus to just go there and want to win even more, you know, because I know Iga doesn’t give up. I think maybe the key is to be unpredictable with Iga, not knowing which shots I’m gonna do. I think that’s really good to disturb her a lot,”the world No.4 said.

Ons Jabeur v Iga Swiatek: head to head
The Tunisian and the Polish player has played against each other five times in their respective careers. Iga Swiatek leads Ons Jabeur in the head to head encounters with 3 wins to only two for Ons Jabeur.
They first met at Washington in 2019. In that match Iga Swiatek defeated Ons Jabeur in the first round 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. However, in the Round of 16 of Wimbledon 2021, Iga Swiatek lost to Ons Jabeur 7-5, 1-6, 1-6. The two have played against each other on clay surface in the final of the Italian Open in 2022. Here, the Pole defeated the Tunisian to clinch the women’s singles title.
However, the greatest match between the two happened in the final of the US Open. This time too Iga Swiatek won 6-2, 7-6 (7/5). Hence, Ons Jabeur has her opportunity to take revenge on Iga Swiatek for this loss and equal her head to head record with her.
