Ons Jabeur, the Tunisian tennis star, has shown her brilliance in the world of tennis by reaching many finals of the tournament. She may not have won any, but she has shown her capabilities by being the only Tunisian woman to reach many finals. Despite all the setbacks, she considers 2023 a miraculous journey.
In the recent interview, she reflects on the unforeseen circumstances that she had to go through in order to reach where she is right now. “This season is a miracle. We started the season not knowing if I could play, and now I’m racing to play in the WTA Finals,” said Ons in an interview on wtatennis.com ahead of the 2023 China Open. She made a conscious effort to savor and appreciate every aspect of her journey, from her triumphs to her challenges.
The Ningbo Open winner also expresses her belief in destiny and the effect it has had on her career. “I think this season is weird and special—everything at the same time. I really try to enjoy it and appreciate it. I’m someone who believes in destiny a lot, so I believe it was meant to be like this. It will teach me a lot of things,” revealed Jabeur. (H/T: WTA Tennis)
Ons Jabeur faces another setback this season with an early exit from China Open
After a hard-earned victory to win her first-ever title in the Hard Court, Ons Jabeur fails to go deep in the ongoing China Open. She played two matches in the Open against Ashlyn Krueger and Marta Kostyuk, where the Tunisian won pretty easily against Ashlyn on the Lotus Court, where she won the maximum of the breakpoints to take a good lead and eventually win the match.
However, she lost in her second match against Marta Kostyuk after a hard-fought first set. The final score was 7-6 (5), 6-1, where Jabeur only managed to hold the match in the first set and did not hold answers to her opponent in the second set, where she managed to win only one game.
The Tunisian was unable to respond to the hard serves by Marta and also made a couple of double faults in the match. Her win percentage in the second serve was below average at 39%, which might have been a huge reason for her early loss in the tournament.
