It’s another year of heartbreak at the Wimbledon Championships for the Moroccan tennis star, Ons Jabeur, after she suffered her second successive final defeat, this time at the hands of Marketa Vondrousova. Jabeur looked like the clear favorite in the final, with everyone expecting her to lift the trophy on Saturday, but she was far from her best today, ending up well short of the title.

With the final score reading 6-4, 6-4 to the name of Marketa, the scoreboard simply doesn’t do justice to Ons at all. She started the second set really well, winning a couple of games on the trot, but kept on making some silly mistakes, which ultimately cost her the title that she had been hunting for two years. She broke down in her on-court interview but was strong enough to make some promises for the future, saying, “I promise I will come back one day and win the tournament.”

She added, “It’s an amazing tournament for me; I wish I continue till the end. I want to thank my team for always believing in me, and we are gonna make it one day, I promise you.” It’s hard for any player to come as close to the final and lose the opportunity of claiming the golden trophy, but for Ons, who has missed this chance in back-to-back years, it is a heartbreaking sight to see.

It’s a moment every tennis player expects and wishes to be a part of for once in their career, but Ons Jabeur deserves all the consolation and admiration for whatever she has done leading up to the tournament despite losing yet another final. From her on-court reception to social media, every single tennis fan has stood in support of the Moroccan after her heartbreaking loss to Marketa.

Several fans believed that Ons was under grave pressure to win the title after missing out last year, and this mindset might have cost her her calmness and composure during the game. Everyone respects Ons for what she has been doing for her community, representing her religion, and standing out as the prime example for many kids out there in her country, and fans believe that if there is anyone who will come back even stronger, it has to be her.
