Tunisian tennis ace Ons Jabeur has heaped praise on current World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka saying the Belarusian has everything that is required to be at the top of the WTA rankings. Jabeur, who is currently competing at the WTA 500 tournament in San Diego said that Sabalenka reaching the top of the rankings will only motivate others to do well.
Notably, Aryna Sabalenka dethroned Poland’s Iga Swiatek after the Belarusian made it to the final of the 2023 US Open. Although she could not win the ultimate prize at the Flushing Meadows, the 25-year-old achieved her career-best ranking.
Talking about Sabalenka being the new World No.1, Jabeur said that the Belarusian deserved to be there while also warning her about others chasing her. “With Aryna, I saw her at the US Open and said congratulations. I believe she really deserved to be #1. She has everything. Serve, big hitter, everything that she needs to be #1. Hopefully, that will motivate us. Definitely, we’ll chase her for sure,” said Jabeur to San Diego Press.
Notably, Sabalenka with 9266 points is at No.1 followed by Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff. Meanwhile, Jabeur slipped two places and is now No.7 with 3771 points from 17 tournaments so far.
Ons Jabeur searching for a major title

Talking about Ons Jabeur’s performance so far in 2023, the Tunisian has won just one WTA 500 title which was in Charleston. Jabeur had defeated Belinda Bencic in the final. But post that win, Jabeur has not been able to lay hands on any other title. While she managed to reach the finals at The Championships, a Grand Slam eluded the Tunisian as Marketa Vondrousova defeated Jabeur.
At the 2023 US Open, Jabeur could progress to the pre-quarterfinals before she was defeated by Qinwen Zheng in straight sets. While Ons Jabeur had a great chance to lay hands on another WTA 500 title in San Diego, the Tunisian lost the opportunity as she was defeated in the second round by Anastasia Potapova in straight sets.
