Ons Jabeur has been one of the most consistent players in the 2023 season. The Tunisian performed superbly in the Grand Slam Majors as well as the WTA Tours.

She reached the finals of the Wimbledon, beating Aryna Sabalenka in the semis. However, she suffered a loss at the hands of Marketa Vondrousova. Jabeur lost her second consecutive Wimbledon final with this defeat.

It was a major setback for the Tunisian, as she was going to be the first WTA player of that origin to lift a Grand Slam title. In a recent documentary named ‘This is Me’ which revolves around Jabeur’s tennis career and setback, Jabeur opened up about the mental and physical effects that the loss had upon her. Jabeur, who has long dreamed of growing her family with Karim, said,

People think I have this pressure because I want to do it for other people, which is not true. There was a personal thing going on there. I win that [final] I could have a baby right away. And that dream faded. I was haunted by fear. After all, I’m just a human being. What can I do more?

As shown in the documentary, Jabeur and her partner Karim Kamoun were planning for a baby as soon as the 29-year-old won the trophy. However, the dreams faded, and she ultimately had to go through medical assistance.

Ons Jabeur plays for the people of Arabs and Middle East and not for herself, says her father

In the documentary, Jabeur’s father Ridha opened up about her daughter changing the perspective of the world for the Arabs. He believed that Jabeur could show the world that even the Middle East is capable of producing champions.

Moreover, her agent Adel Aref added,

She’s got that responsibility to show an example to 600 million people. And those 600 million people are behind that TV watching. When she steps into that court, she needs to deliver for those people.

Whatever may be the results, reaching the Wimbledon finals for two consecutive years is a humongous task. With the World No.6 all set to start her 2024 season with the Australian Open, all eyes would be upon her to see how the Wimbledon finalist performs.
