Ons Jabeur hits back at the ‘Unjust’ criticism of Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Ons Jabeur
Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur disagrees with the criticism leveled against Qatar for around the World Cup. The World No 2 has hit back against all those criticisms saying they were ‘unjust’. Jabeur believes every country has something that’s not right.
FIFA World Cup 2022 host Qatar faced a lot of criticism the world over even before the event started. Many cited the nation’s human rights records, strict codes, and the poor treatment of thousands of migrant workers as the basis for their disapproval. Critics blamed the global football body for overlooking the country’s record and even argued to take away the event from Qatar.
“I think it was unjust, to be honest with you. There is in every country you can find something is not right, and for some reason, Qatar now is organizing the World Cup, and everybody was criticizing it,” Jabeur said.
Jabeur defended the strict codes and rules of Qatar. “It’s just like if you go to any country, you respect their culture, right? For me it was just you go there, you respect the rules and everything, and I feel like it was the cleanest World Cup ever. There was no stealing; there was no crime; there was nothing there that happened,” she elaborated.
“For me, I don’t think they will have a nicer World Cup because you can watch four matches in a day, which is impossible in other World Cups. It’s just time to maybe let other countries shine, and I think Qatar had a great organization in the World Cup,” Jabeur further explained.

Ons Jabeur readies herself for the 2023 challenge
World No. 2 and two-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur is ready to make a big splash in the 2023 season. The 28-year-old has drawn some valuable lessons from the last season. “I was ready to win it this year. But it didn’t happen and didn’t happen for a reason. I’m glad that I got the experience of two finals in a Grand Slam,” she said a few days back.
In 2022, Jabeur was expecting a Grand Slam win but she was stopped by Iga Swiatek in the US Open. This year too contest between the two will be the highlight of the women’s circuit. Earlier Jabeur revealed dethroning Swiatek will be the added motivation for her in the season.
“She gave us a lot of confidence to go after her,” Jabeur said about the Polish player. The Tunisian has been pipped as the one to look for this season by Martina Navratilova. Jabeur will be hoping to live up to the expectations as the season progresses. Currently, she is participating in Adelaide International as her season opener.
