Ons Jabeur’s new documentary named ‘This is me’ dropped recently on Tod.tv on January 7. The 90-minute documentary is based on the mental and physical struggles that the Tunisian tennis star has suffered throughout her career and also has some stunning revelations.

In a shocking revelation, the 29-year-old revealed that she was once offered to play for a different flag but she denied those offers. Jabeur said that being a Tunisian is a big part of her identity and thus she wants to create history only while representing her country.

I refused because I knew part of me playing, part of Ons Jabeur, is being Tunisian and that blood will help me win and make history

The Tunisian had a pretty eventful campaign in 2023. Ons Jabeur faced Marketa Vondrousova in the second round of the 2023 Australian Open and after losing to the Czech international, she required medical attention. She turned blue and struggled to breathe, following which her coach, Issam Jelali, thought that she would die.

Jabeur made a wonderful comeback from there and dropped a sensational performance in the Wimbledon. However, despite reaching the final of the tournament, she lost to Marketa Vondrousova again and missed the golden opportunity of winning her first-ever Grand Slam title.

Ons Jabeur was heartbroken after her loss in her final. She wears her heart on her sleeves and could not stop her tears. Her loss to Vondrousova and her reaction to it has also been covered in the documentary.

Ons Jabeur wants to prove her doubters wrong

Ons Jabeur has reached three Grand Slam finals in her career so far and has a career-high ranking of World No. 2. Yet she suffers from self-doubt. The Tunisian said that she has been doubted by everyone throughout her life and the naysayers have had an impact on her subconscious.

People laughed and maybe that made me doubt what I wanted to do as well. And I do believe there are a lot of unconscious things in there that I’m working on and I’m still working on and I believe that I can do better in this, but I don’t have a magic stick that I [can use and be like], ‘Believe in yourself’

The 29-year-old will now take part in the 2024 Australian Open. She would like to improve her performance from last time and definitely has the potential to do so, given the form that she has been in lately.
