Tunisian World No.7 Ons Jabeur says that she is not surprised by the American World No.3 Coco Gauff‘s triumph in the US Open 2023. She also said that she had always backed the American teen to win major titles long back. The American won the title in an emphatic fashion defeating the Belarusian World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka from a set down in the final.

Jabeur was talking in the press conference ahead of the San Diego Open. As in the Tunisian star’s words, “I’ve always said Coco will win her Grand Slam one day. It’s amazing to see that she’s playing good. And most importantly, she’s having fun on the court. That’s really amazing.”

The Tunisian World No.7 Ons Jabuer is currently playing in the San Diego Open. In the US Open, her hopes were dismantled by the Chinese World No.23 Qinwen Zheng in the fourth round. She was expected to make a deeper run in Flushing Meadows before the Chinese star came out and played one of the best tennis of her career.

The American teen Coco Gauff has been phenomenal throughout the North American hard court swing and not just the US Open. Altogether she was playing at a different level after the first-round exit at Wimbledon. The first WTA-1000 title win in the Cincinnati Open was just a trailer of the eventual showdown in the US Open for the current World No.3 player.

Her epic win over the Polish star Iga Swiatek also happened in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open. It was the first win of the American in eight attempts and according to Coco Gauff, it was not at all expected by herself, especially after her poor show at the Wimbledon where she lost in the first round itself.

With her amazing performance at her home Grand Slam, the American star Coco Gauff has moved to her career highest ranking of World Number 3 as well. Her emphatic win has been celebrated wholeheartedly by the United States of America as they believe Gauff will finally be the answer to fill the gap of the Williams sisters.
