On Friday, April 7, Ons Jabeur advanced to the semi-finals of the Charleston Open 2023 after her opponent Anna Alinskaya retired from the match due to illness. Jabeur had a strong lead of 6-0, 4-1 when the Russian retired, resulting in a walkover victory for the Tunisian player. In the semi-finals of the 2023 Charleston Open, Ons Jabeur is set to face off against the third-seeded player, Daria Kasatkina.
Jabeur’s season was initially affected by injury, but she has made a comeback, reaching her second semi-final of the year following the Adelaide International 1 in January. Jabeur has previously advanced to the semi-finals in the past two editions of the tournament and is aiming for her fourth career title.
In an interview, Ons Jabeur made a humorous and endearing remark. She said ” When I asked for dinner last time you know everybody offered to cook for me which is really amazing so thank you guys, even one of the ball boys told me he is taking cooking classes and willing to cook for me”
The Russian player will be making her second semi-final appearance of the season, having previously reached the final of the Adelaide International 2. However, her performance after the final was not as successful, winning only three out of her next nine matches.

Ons Jabeur expresses happiness for Aryna Sabalenka
According to Ons Jabeur, she felt immense joy for Aryna Sabalenka’s triumph at the Australian Open. Sabalenka had previously lost in the semi-finals of three Grand Slam tournaments, but finally achieved a breakthrough at Melbourne Park this year. Jabeur commented on Sabalenka’s achievement, stating that it was well-deserved. Jabeur also acknowledged that Sabalenka has faced significant challenges over the past year, as some people hold negative feelings towards her due to the political situation in Ukraine.
“I was very happy for Aryna when she won the Australian Open. I know how she struggled. We know what’s happening in the locker room. People are harsh with comments. Huge respect for Aryna, for Paula. Everyone has their story. I wish people wouldn’t judge quickly,” Jabeur said on Tennis Channel.
Following a minor knee surgery, Jabeur made her comeback during the Sunshine Double. However, her performance during these tournaments was not ideal, as she was eliminated in the third round at Indian Wells and in the second round at Miami.
