Ons Jabeur recently posted a video with fellow tennis players, Marketa Vondrousova and Karolina Muchova, on her Twitter account. The video had Jabeur laughing and cracking jokes with Czech friends as the three qualified for the WTA finals to be held in Cancun.

The video started off with Jabeur recording herself and then taking the Czechs into the frame. She kept saying, “Girls, c’mon, this way.” At first, the two seemed confused, but then Jabeur said, “This way to Cancun,” which made Vondrousova and Muchova erupt in laughter.

For context, The WTA final features the eight best players of the year who compete for the championship. Three spots were left to be confirmed by the event, but after the Beijing quarterfinals, the top players were sealed. Jabeur has qualified for the event for the second consecutive time. A Grand Slam is yet to be won by the Tunisian, but she sealed the spot by winning events like Charleston and, more recently, Ningbo.

Marketa Vondrousova, on the other hand, took everyone by surprise when she won the 2023 Wimbledon. She defeated Jabeur, who had reached the final of the grass-court tournament for the second consecutive time. Earlier, she lost to Elena Rybakina. Vondrousova is the first unseeded player in history to win Wimbledon.

The last person to make it to Cancun is Karolina Muchova. She became the second Czech player to qualify, after Vondrousova. What is surprising is that she has not won a single title this year. But she showed exceptional tenacity by overcoming several injuries.

The first is the current World No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka displayed extreme grit when she defeated Rybakina in a tough close-call match and won her first Grand Slam trophy at the 2023 Australian Open. She also reached the finals of the US Open and gave a hard time to the eventual winner, Coco Gauff.

Iga Swiatek, the Polish sensation, is the second player to qualify for Cancun. She dominated the No. 1 spot for almost the entire season. She grabbed her third GS trophy at the Roland Garros by defeating Muchova. Swiatek has reached the finals of the China Open and is inches away from the coveted title.

Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, the ultimate American doubles partners, are the other two to qualify. Gauff won three events on the US circuit, whereas Pegula held the National Bank Open trophy. Elena Rybakina is the fifth person to qualify. Although the Kazakh spent the entirety of the season with injuries and intestinal infections, she has been giving her level best.
