Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur has announced that she has pulled out of the 2024 Dubai Open owing to an injury to her knee. The 2023 Wimbledon runner-up had been struggling to perform in her last few tournaments, and now her fans know why.
Ons Jabeur’s rough patch started at the Australian Open, where she lost to 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva in straight sets in the second round. She then lost to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarterfinal of the Abu Dhabi Open and the first round of the Qatar Open against Lesia Tsurenko.
She was initially supposed to take part in the Dubai Open as well, but her doctors and team suggested her not to lest she might miss the 2024 US swing.
I wanted to share with you all that my Knee, is not holding, it's been unbearable to play with the pain and not being able to give my best on the court is frustrating. After consultation of my Doctors and Team we have decided that I will have to withdraw from The Dubai Duty Free Open this week and go for more medical treatments. Looking forward to reconnect with All on the courts for the US swing.Ons Jabeur wrote on her Instagram story.
She also thanked her family, friends, and fans for their constant support. The only positive of this news is that Ons Jabeur will finally get a much-needed break so that she can recover properly ahead of the 2024 Indian Wells and Miami Open, which are her focus at the moment.
Ons Jabeur was in a dilemma regarding her injury
Ahead of the Dubai Open, Ons Jabeur announced that she was facing fitness issues. Her heart wanted to play but her body would just not allow and that is not a good place to be at. But then again, she was also not getting the results that she hoped for and in such a situation, it is always better to cater to the body’s needs.
I think it's the worst decision you can take because my heart wants to play and my body is not allowing so much. I feel like I need to take the right decision and sometimes you have to take decisions where your heart is not agreeing with it.Jabeur said to the National
Back then, she said that she was doing her best to take part in the Dubai Open and compete in front of her fans. Unfortunately, it did not age well.
