Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur has expressed support for Palestine amid its ongoing war with Israel and has hoped for peace to be restored in this region. Jabeur posted a story on Instagram wherein she condemned the violence by both parties (Hamas and Israel) and also asked people to not jump to judgments without knowing the history.
Jabeur posted a long message on her Instagram and stood in solidarity with Palestine. The Tunisian openly voiced her opinion and indirectly took a dig at Israel for encroachment. She urged that everyone who is taking sides with Israel must know the context and should also take the history between the countries into consideration. Jabeur also said that violence can never bring peace.
“What innocent civilians are going through is indescribable; no matter what their religion is, or what their origin is,” the world No. 7 and three-time Grand Slam finalist wrote in an Instagram story. “Violence will never bring peace; I cannot stand with violence but I also cannot stand with people having their lands taken.
“So, understanding context is important, looking at what’s happening today and deciding to ignore recent history is irresponsible and won’t bring peace. And peace is all we care about. Peace is what everyone needs and deserves.”

What is the history Ons Jabeur wants everyone to know?
As Ons Jabeur has asked fans to know about the history between Israel and Palestine, let’s have a look at it exactly. So, it all started with the creation of Israel in 1948 and the ousting of thousands of Palestinians into neighboring countries. Those who fled survived while the others who stayed to fight for their land suffered. Many wars have broken out between Palestine and Israel with the former demanding the creation of a free state while Israel opposes it.
Things became worse when Hamas, an Islamist militant group that is committed to the destruction of Israel and is designated as a terrorist group by the UK and many other powers came into power for the first time by winning Palestine’s last election in 2006. It then took control of Gaza and launched several attacks on Israel who have retaliated in response.
The same happened last week when a few Hamas militants infiltrated into Israel’s border and killed around 900 citizens. Several others including kids and women are being held as hostages in Gaza. On the other hand, Israel also launched air strikes resulting in around 700 deaths including civilians. The whole world is divided into two parts with some standing with Israel while some empathizing with people in Gaza. Ons Jabeur is with Palestine and demands it to be freed.
