Renowned coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, who has worked with the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Simona Halep and 4-times gold medalist, Serena Williams, sparked a debate in the tennis world recently regarding the importance of the Olympics. Spanish tennis player, Pablo Carreno Busta jumped in on the discussion.
“There is no history between between tennis and Olympic games…A Grand Slam is a 100 times more important for a tennis player for a tennis player than the Olympic Games,” Mourtatoglou claimed in a reel he shared on his Instagram handle. However, Olympic bronze medalist, Pablo Carreno Busta, in an interview with puntodebreak.com, chimed in into the debate in disagreement.
Pablo Carreno won bronze in his very first Olympic games. The Spaniard ousted the current World No.1 and an Olympic bronze-medalist himself, Novak Djokovic at the the Olympic Games held in Tokyo in 2020 to claim the third position in the men’s singles category. When the interviewer asked Carreno if he is looking forward to the games in 2024, he replied in the affirmative. “I would like to be in Paris, in the end the Olympic Games are very important,” the 32-year-old said.
“I was only able to play a few, those in Tokyo, and I got a medal, and I would like to be able to enjoy more normal Olympic Games,” Carreno further told the interviewer.
The 2020 Olympic Games were held in empty stadiums with no audience in attendance. The ‘COVID-19’ pandemic wreaked havoc all around the globe killing millions. “In Tokyo there was no audience, I didn’t have people around. I would love to enjoy the Olympic Games with the public, with my family and with everyone supporting me, it will surely be something very nice to experience,” the Spaniard stated.
