Holger Rune, despite just recently breaking into the tour, has been turning heads in the tennis world. He first rose to recognition when he made it to the quarter-final of the French Open, where he lost against Casper Ruud. However, his career trajectory has been upward ever since. However, the past couple of months have been a little dry for the Dane. His last title was at the Munich Open 2023, where he defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in the final. He also made it to the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters and at the Italian Open.

Dominic Thiem, on the other hand, is already a well-established player. The title winner of the 2020 US Open, he has already shown the tennis world his capabilities. He had reached a career-high ranking of World No. 3. However, all this came to an end when he started suffering from a wrist injury in 2021. Since then, the Austrian has not been able to play the same game.

Holger Rune has been on a roll for the past few years. He is also the defending champion at the Paris Masters. He defeated Novak Djokovic in 2022 to win his first and only Masters 1000 title at the venue. Since then he has made it to two Masters 1000 finals. While the Dane seems to be struggling with his game the past few months, he is still one of the better players on the tour at the moment.

Dominic Thiem on the other hand has had a rough couple of years. Barring a final appearance at his home tournament at the Austrian Open in August 2023, the former World No. 3 has not seen much success. His last ATP title was his US Open title in 2020 against Alexander Zverev. Since then, the Austrian has been struggling with his form. Holger Rune had won their former encounter at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters. While this match will be a rematch of their previous meeting, the result is not likely to change.
