24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic continues his pursuit towards a record-extending 7th title at the Paris Masters as he faces Dutch pro, Tallon Griekspoor in the Round of 16 on Thursday at the Accor Arena, Paris.

The Serb was beaten in the final of the last edition of the tournament by Dane pro, Holger Rune in 3 sets. Djokovic has already won 5 tour-level titles this year, including 3 Grand Slams.

On the other hand, Griekspoor is enjoying a breakthrough season of sorts, winning his first tour-level title at the 2023 TATA Open Maharashtra. The Dutch pro followed it up with his 2nd career title at the Libema Open, defeating Alex de Minaur in the quarter-final. At the Citi Open in Washington, he upset top seed and current World No. 10 Taylor Fritz for his first career top 10 victory to advance to his third final of 2023, and first at the ATP 500 Level, where he lost to Dan Evans.

Griekspoor, the Dutch no.1, is currently at a career-high ranking of 23. The pair have faced off twice with Djokovic winning both encounters. Their most recent clash came at the Dubai Open earlier this year where the World No.1 dismantled the 27-year-old 6-2, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Novak Djokovic vs. Tallon Griekspoor: Match preview

Novak Djokovic looked in fine form as he completely dominated his second-round encounter against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, his first competitive singles clash on tour in almost one and a half months. The 1st seed defeated the Argentine pro 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 24 minutes to book his spot in the round of 16 of the Paris Masters.

Some parts of the match really good, others losing the rhythm. But I think it is normal to be rusty a little bit after not playing an official match for so long. But a straight-sets win against a guy who has been improving so much.
The World No.1 told the press in a post-match press conference

The 36-year-old is looking forward to winning a record-extending 40th Masters title in Paris. The Serb has already qualified for the ATP Finals to be played in Turin, Italy. Djokovic has won the year-end championship a joint record, with Roger Federer, 6 times.

Meanwhile, Griekspoor arrives into the clash on the back of impressive performances in the first and second rounds. The Dutch no.1 defeated Spanish pro Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-2, 6-2 in the second round clash. The World No.23 came back from a set down in the first round to get the better of American pro, Christopher Eubanks.

Novak Djokovic vs Tallon Griekspoor: Match prediction

It’d be hard to imagine that a well-rested Djokovic can be beaten this early into the tournament. In addition to this, Djokovic being the best returner in the history of the game will neutralize Griekspoor’s greatest strength i.e. his serve.

The 1st seed enjoys a distinct advantage over the Dutch in terms of groundstrokes.

Match Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in straight sets
