World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will play against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round of the Paris Masters. This will be the duo’s second encounter after their match at the 2023 Italian Open. In their last meeting, it was the Serb who won in straight sets.

The Serb has had quite the season this year. At 36 years of age, he is still overpowering the next generation of players. At the moment, all his opponents, bar a few, are nearly 10 years or younger than him.

This does not seem to deter World No. 1. At the 2023 US Open, Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final, thus winning his 24th Grand Slam title. While he might have played only a limited number of tournaments this year, he still managed to hold on to his No. 1 position.

The Argentinian, on the other hand, is still starting out on his game. He made it to the quarterfinals of the Basel 500 event, where he was defeated by Holger Rune. Ranked 31st in the world, he is still finding his place on the Tour. He also qualified for the semi-final of the Austrian Open, where he lost to compatriot Sebastian Baez.
