Patrick Mouratoglou lauded Iga Swiatek for her incredible performance in Qatar Open.
Patrick Mouratoglou and Iga Swiatek
During a recent interview, the French coach Patrick Mouratoglou praised Iga Swiatek for her complete dominance in the Qatar Open 2023. Swiatek was incredible throughout the tournament and she was able to win it by giving away just five games in total. She took only around three hours total match time as well. These unbelievable numbers made the tennis world in awe.
Keeping this in mind, Mouratoglou said, “I think the statement of Iga was huge. We saw that she didn’t want to lose any single game in all of her matches, fighting for every point like her life would depend on it. It’s funny because this very start of the season was not good. I mean, it was quite obvious that she was more nervous. It was more difficult for her to deal with the pressure simply, and the results were disappointing for someone like her. “
The Frenchman continued on how she played in Doha, “But the way she played in Doha was really incredible, and I think she really made a point. And she said, ‘Guys, I’m back and I’m back at my best level’ I mean the win is one thing, but the scores against all those good players are speaking so loud. We saw the best Iga, the Iga that is a killer.” (Source: Tennis World USA)

Iga Swiatek’s one-woman show in Qatar
The Polish star truly enjoys being back at the top of her game. It is understandable how big the win is for Iga Swiatek even though the Qatar Open is only a WTA-500 tournament. She would have had to deal with a lot of demons after the shocking loss in Australian Open 2023 where she was the firm favorite.
Being able to win all the matches after destroying the opponents will give the Polish huge confidence for the rest of the year. Though she didn’t have to face Belinda Bencic in the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament due to the latter’s withdrawal, winning a tournament in three hours including three bagels after giving away just five games the whole tournament is quite unreal. In the final here in Qatar, the Super Polish destroyed the American World No.4 Jessica Pegula in straights: 6-3, 6-0.
She is currently playing in Dubai Open and has already reached the semi-finals. She will play Coco Gauff there.
