Serena Williams has delivered impeccable results during her time on the WTA Tour. Along with that, she has further lifted the women’s tennis community with her rags-to-riches attainment of fame and laudable achievements.
Subsequently, the American’s former coach Patrick Mouratoglou recently heaped praises on her legacy over all-time Grand Slam record bearer Margaret Court, the former Australian tennis player notably known to hold the most number of slam titles in the history of women’s tennis.
Former World No. 1 Serena Williams is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most formidable tennis players of all time. During her time on the tour, the American clinched 23 Grand Slam singles titles, merely a crown shy from leveling Margaret Court’s all-time record. However, the 42-year-old unfortunately walked away from the sport in 2022 after making a series of appearances at the US Open.
Most recently, the 23-time Slam holder’s former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, superseded the American’s position over Aussie Margaret Court and asserted that Williams is unequivocally the GOAT of women’s tennis owing to her unparallel slam record in the Open Era. He said:
No because Margaret Court record was established before the Open Era, when tennis was not a professional sport. Cannot compare. Serena is the Goat of Women tennis.Mouratoglou via X
It is worth noting that the 42-year-old gave birth to her first child, Olympia Ohanian, in 2017, after which she proceeded to clinch her final slam title at the season’s Australian Open.
Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou considers Novak Djokovic as the GOAT
Former American tennis professional’s coach Patrick Mouratoglou voiced his take on the highly anticipated GOAT debate and showered praise upon Serbia’s Novak Djokovic. The Frenchman admitted Djokovic to be the undisputed GOAT of tennis, backing his claims with the Serb’s jaw-dropping 24 Grand Slam title record.
I’ve never seen in the history of tennis someone who is on top of their game at 36, as much as they were at 26, 28. It’s a whole career of being at the top. He had one or two difficult years, but most of his career he’s been at the top of his game, even though he played in the same era as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, which says even more about how an incredible, dominant player he is.Frenchman Mouratoglou told Tennis Majors last December.
Novak Djokovic was most recently witnessed in action at the 2024 United Cup, where he suffered an unexpected defeat at the hands of Alex de Minaur during the quarterfinal round of the group stage matches. The Serb is scheduled to perform next at the Australian Open, provided that his wrist injury concerns do not hamper his upcoming attendance.
