One of the most experienced coaches in the tennis world, Patrick Mourtaoglou, had some positive things to say about 23-time Gram Slam title champion Novak Djokovic. He claimed that beating Novak Djokovic on the grass courts of Wimbledon is the ultimate feat for any up-and-coming tennis player.

For the uninitiated, Novak Djokovic has won Wimbledon seven times and is currently on the hunt for the eighth, which would equal Roger Federer‘s record.

Mouratoglou, who has coached tennis great Serena Williams in the past, appeared on episode seven of Netflix’s famous tennis documentary series “Break Point”. He made a very brave statement, saying, “Beating Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon is probably the highest mountain to climb for any tennis player.” This angered a lot of fans, with Twitter exploding in hate for the coach’s comments.

Djokovic has reached the final of Wimbledon a record eight times, losing only once to Andy Murray in 2013. On the other hand, Rafael Nadal has reached the Roland Garros final 14 times in his career and has never lost a single final.

The records speak for themselves, as there will hardly be any player in the history of the sport to have dominated a prestigious tournament like Nadal has done in the French Open.

How fans reacted to Mouratoglou’s comments on Novak Djokovic

As expected, tennis fans didn’t take this statement very well, as they pointed out that Rafa Nadal’s dominance at Roland Garros stands head and shoulders above all others. As per the majority of tennis fans out there, beating Nadal on the clay court should undoubtedly be the toughest feat for any tennis player, and that is more difficult than beating Djokovic at Wimbledon.

Furthermore, some fans also linked this story to training academies authorized by Mourtaoglou and Nadal, saying that Patrick ignored Nadal due to his academy in France. Prominent tennis players like Casper Ruud and Iga Swiatek practice at the Nadal tennis academy, and fans saw this as one of the many reasons why Patrick rated Novak higher than Nadal.
