Spanis tennis sensation Paula Baadosa found herself in a rather awkward moment at the post-match conference where an interviewer confused Badosa as the winner of the match. For context, Badosa retired midway through her second-round encounter against Marta Kostyuk when she was trailing the game by 6-2, 1-0, thereby letting her fans down yet again.
There was a lot of pressure on Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa leading up to this year’s Wimbledon after they received several comments and statements about their newly found love. Many fans were demanding the couple to perform well on the court and focus more on training than spending time at fancy restaurants. Although Stefanos managed to advance to the third round of Wimbledon 2023 with wins over prominent tennis professionals like Thiem and Andy Murray, Paula gave up, owing to her reoccurring back pain.
The interviewer first congratulated her. To which Badosa reluctantly said, “I lost.”
However, it didn’t end there, as the interviewer continued, “You missed some matches because of injury. Could you please tell us about your fitness and confidence level, please?”
She further cleared his confusion yet again by saying, “For your information, I just lost. I didn’t win. So, yeah.”
Interestingly, even the moderator had to tell the interviewer that she didn’t actually win. He repeated, “Not win?”
To which Badosa again answered a simple “No”.
Where does Paula Badosa go on from here?
Paula Badosa has been out of action for a long time, and Wimbledon was her first Major tournament after her quarterfinal finish at the Italian Open back in May. She was seen practicing hard and preparing really well along with her boyfriend, Tsitsipas’s father, due to which she also received several negative comments. As expected, fans are extremely disappointed with her performance, with some netizens saying that she is taking her career lightly and counting more on her relationship than her tennis.
She also couldn’t perform with her boyfriend as was expected in the Mixed Doubles section, where they were set to face Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek in the first round. With that being said, now it seems like she will now need to bring her career back on track, or else it will be a sad end to one of the top prospects in the sport.
