Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa who lost to Amanda Anisimova in the third round at the 2024 Australian Open and got knocked out of the tournament, has talked about the unpredictability of the matches on the tour. Badosa claims that the level of tennis has gone up and that anyone can beat the other on a given day.
Badosa was defeated by the American Anisimova in straight sets at the John Cain Arena. This means that the Spaniard’s comeback to the tour after an injury-marred 2023 season is not of the level she would have hoped for. Badosa was knocked out of the Adelaide International after a loss in the first round.

Now, here in Melbourne, the former World No. 2 has been knocked out after a loss in the third round. After the defeat at the hands of a much below-ranked Anisimova, Badosa claimed that the level of tennis has gone up. The Spaniard says that while in earlier times top players used to face challenging opponents in the latter stages of a Grand Slam event, it is not the case anymore.
I think tennis has changed a lot in the past years. Maybe before, the top-10 players, the top-20 players, even talking with them - the older ones in this case - they were telling me that maybe before to get in a slam they were having tough matches in quarter-finals or in the fourth round. Now you can find that in the first round.Paula Badosa said after getting knocked out of 2024 Australian Open.

The Spanish tennis player has claimed that the level of tennis has gone up and hence it has become too unpredictable. Paula Badosa then said that the unpredictability of the matches makes them more entertaining.

I think tennis has evolved a lot, and the level has increased a lot. Yeah, anyone can beat you right now. Yeah, I think it's nice also because you never know what's going to happen. It makes it more entertaining.Paula Badosa said.
It is worth mentioning that there were quite a few upsets seen in the second round at the 2024 Australian Open. While Badosa lost to Amanda Anisimova, 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu was ousted by Yafan Wang. Among all, the biggest upset of the second round was last year’s finalist Elena Rybakina losing to Anna Blinkova. The Kazakh ace lost it in one of the longest matches played at the Grand Slam tournament.
To mention a few more upsets, Jessica Pegula lost to Clara Burel. Maria Sakkari lost to Elina Avanesyan, Caroline Wozniacki was knocked out after a defeat against qualifier Maria Timofeeva, and Ons Jabeur was defeated by Mirra Andreeva.
