Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa talked about the financial struggles she had to go through before cracking the top-100 rankings, coming from a middle-class family. The Spanish former World No.2 is currently dealing with a series of injuries and is not having the best of times of her career. The young Spaniard was talking to WTA about the struggles of being outside the top 100 in the initial days of her career.

Badosa said to WTA, “I know how tough it is to be a professional tennis player & how expensive it is. It’s not for everyone. I come from a very humble family, have always been very independent. I never wanted them to help me. When I was 15, I started to deal with my own financial part and started to learn from it as well. I was struggling with expenses, I was doing it on my own.”

Badosa continued on how she didn’t want to get her family involved in the financial crisis she had to face to become a professional player. She explained, “I didn’t want them to carry that weight on their shoulders. Those first years before I broke into the top 100, I was stressed and worried about it because I was doing it by myself.”

Paula Badosa is currently out of top-50

After reaching her highest ranking of 2 the previous year, the Spanish 25-year-old Paula Badosa had a steep downfall this year. After continuous setbacks, she is also out of the top 50 in the WTA rankings. She will be looking to be back and ready for the next season as she has recently posted some workout photos on her Instagram handle with the hopes of being back on the tour soon.

Though Badosa has had a bad year professionally, she is currently dating the Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas, and their intimate pictures have made the tennis world heated in recent days. As a note to be added, Tsitsipas is also struggling with his form on the court and is going through a rough patch where he is losing in the early rounds of tournaments continuously.
