Paula Badosa fiercely criticizes the Spanish publications for spreading false news regarding her personal relationship. She called them out to verify the facts before openly declaring things “breaking news”.
The Spaniard has been dating Juan Betancourt publicly since 2021. He is an established Cuban model and has been in the industry for years. Betancourt has worked with famous names like Giorgio Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Ralph Lauren and has also graced the covers of Vanity Fair, GQ, Vogue Spain, and Esquire.
Recently, the Spanish publication Hola! broke the news that Badosa and Juan Betancourt had broken up. They claimed that the couple had had some issues brewing since the start of spring this year. They supplemented their report while stating that the model has been absent from her on-court team for quite some time. The news caught the attention of World No. 35, as she discarded the false speculations through her Instagram.
“The information is the opposite. You should inform yourselves better when you make your ‘scoops’. Thank you”, she declared through her story.
The post had been deleted from her official Instagram page. Since then, there has been no further response from her side. Earlier, the Spanish player talked about the challenges her relationship faces while she is constantly on tour. Badosa defeated Ons Jabeur in straight sets in the round of 64 of the Italian Open. She will next face the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in round 34.
Paula Badosa voices for ‘equal pay’ at the Italian Open
Paula Badosa is back at the Italian Open, where she failed to reach the quarterfinals last year after losing to Daria Kasatkina. While addressing the pre-tournament press, the Spaniard voiced the need to establish ‘uniform’ prize money for both the ATP and WTA players.
The Rome Open organizers are facing heat from the female players regarding the pay discrepancy. The tour has the men competing for $9.1 million while the women compete for $3.5 million. The huge difference in prize money is being criticized after Indian Wells, Miami, and Madrid provided equal pay on both ATP and WTA circuits. Even the four Grand Slams offer the same prize money to the men’s and women’s categories.
Badosa stated that the organizers have made no changes and they have no option but to compete in the prevailing conditions. “I don’t know why it’s not equal right now. They don’t inform us. They say this is what you get and you have to play”, she said at the press conference. Ons Jabeur also showed her frustration with the Rome organizers and voiced the need for equality in the pay structure.
“I don’t see why we have to wait. It’s really frustrating. It’s time for a change. It’s time for the tournament to do better”, she spoke during the press conference.
The Italian Open organizers have declared to bring an equal pay structure until 2025. Till then, female players have to compete at a lower pay for the sport, which has the same ticket price for both ATP and WTA matches.
