Often popular athletes and celebrities refrain from talking openly about their private life, especially their relationship status. A lot of that is to do with how people will react. Another pointer would be how often people would associate your success or failure with the relationship.

The situation is worse if you are a known figure in whatever field you are working. Tennis players are no exception to facing the scrutiny of being in a relationship. If you win, the world would love to say that your partner has played a role in you being successful. Suppose you fail or lose, the same set of people will jump on the other side and blame your relationship for your downfall.

Recently in an interview, Spanish tennis pro Paula Badosa opened up about her relationship. As per the tennis icon herself, she was hesitant at first to talk about the whole thing as she was afraid of how people would react to it. That’s not all, Paula also didn’t want it to be the talk of the town.

Continuing her train of thought, she noted, “for me, it was very difficult to announce this relationship. It is bad for a female athlete because they will always judge you: if you win or lose it will always be because of your relationship. You have to get used to all of this and go beyond these comments.”

She further added, “It’s true I’m a tennis player, but I’m also a person. As does my partner and we both tend to take it easy.” One has to agree with what Badosa wants to say here. Celebrities do struggle when it comes to their personal relationships as they often are one of the primary things which they are judged for.

A live example of an athlete facing a lot of backlash and criticism online due to his romantic relationship is tennis player Matteo Berrettini. He is often in the news nowadays and most of the attention that the Italian gets is both unnecessary and unfortunate. He has had a poor 2023 with numerous first-round exits and an unfortunate abdominal injury to add to it.

What’s worse is that his relationship is being blamed for his injury struggles. Many fans have blamed Berrettini’s partner, Goal Deejay Presenter Melissa Satta for her boyfriend’s injuries. They believe she has forced the tennis player into a lot of pleasurable time which is the prime reason for Berrettini’s failure. However, the presenter rubbished the claims as she confidently said that people can say whatever they want to, but both I and my partner are more than happy and know that nothing is coming in the way of our careers.
