Andrey Rublev has sent out a powerful message after his three-set victory over Daniil Medvedev at the ATP Finals. The seventh seed has been critical of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and has spoken out against the same on several occasions in the past. The Russian once again pleaded for peace, by writing a message on camera after his victory over Daniil Medvedev.

“Peace peace peace all we need!” These were the words written by a desperate Andrey Rublev, who wants the ongoing conflict to come to a halt at the earliest. Earlier this year, the Russian stated that he is using the platform to create more awareness and deliver the right message. This message came just after it was confirmed that Russians will not be allowed to compete at Wimbledon 2022.

“We wanted to use the platform of a championship to show that we don’t fight here, that there’s no war in tennis. It’s most important now. As a tennis player, I could deliver the right message from the court,” Rublev told Russian blogger Vitya Kravchenko.

Andrey Rublev could not have asked for a better start to his ATP Finals campaign, after securing a last-gasp victory over fellow countryman, Daniil Medvedev. The match went right down to the wire, with Rublev holding his nerve to clinch the victory in the final set tiebreaker.

Moreover, the seventh seed came back from a set that will do his confidence an entire world of good. This is Rublev’s third appearance at the year-end finals, as he was knocked out in the round-robin stages in 2020 and 2021. The task only gets more challenging for Andrey Rublev, as he is yet to face prior champions, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic in the round-robin stages.

The Russian has not had the best couple of weeks recently, getting knocked out in the second round of the Paris Masters and Vienna Open. However, he has gotten off to a splendid start in Turin and will look to carry forward his momentum in his upcoming battles.
