Anett Kontaveit was one of the best players in the second half of the last season but hasn’t made much progress this year despite her ranking showing otherwise. She started the season with a title triumph at St. Petersburg and also reached the final of the Qatar Open. She also started her clay season with a quarterfinal outing at Stuttgart, but she had a terrible clay season after that. She didn’t do good at Wimbledon either but bounced back last week to reach the final of the German Open. This week in Prague, she defeated Ekaterine Gorgodze in the opening round before beating Lucie Havlickova in the Round of 16 in straight sets 6-4,6-3.

Anastasia Potapova has had good results in the WTA 125k tournaments and has also done well on the doubles circuit. But her singles game has been very inconsistent and she has struggled to enter the main draws of big tournaments. Her best result of the season came at the Istanbul Open earlier this year where she finished runner-up. A couple of weeks ago, she reached the semifinal at Lausanne and backed it up with another semifinal outing last week at Hamburg. This week, she has defeated two Chinese players- Xinyu Wang and Zhu Lin to reach the last 8.

This will be the third meeting between the duo. Kontaveit leads the H2H 2-1. They met at Hamburg last week where Kontaveit won in straight sets.
