The 2023 Citi Open, previously known as the Washington Open, has begun with a bang, bringing together the best men’s and women’s tennis players for a highly anticipated tournament. The event has become an even more appealing stop on the tennis calendar, attracting elite talent from around the world, thanks to rising prize money.
The total prize money on offer for the ATP event this year is an amazing $2,013,940, signifying a 3.11% increase over the tournament’s 2022 edition. The champion in Washington will be rewarded handsomely, with the winner’s prize money totaling $353,445, representing a 3.11% pay increase over the previous year. The increases apply to earlier rounds as well, with second-round losers receiving a 3.12% boost in pay, totaling $26,905 in prize money.
On the women’s side, the tournament has been upgraded from a WTA 250 event to a WTA 500 event, resulting in a considerable increase in prize money. The overall prize money for the women’s tournament this year is an outstanding $780,637, a significant 210.08% increase over the previous year.
The WTA champion will be rewarded handsomely with a check for $120,150, a staggering 261.90% increase over 2022. The entire draw has also witnessed a significant boost in pay, with first-round losers collecting $8,320, an astounding 193.47% increase from a year ago.
