“Publicity stunt?” Twitter takes a cheeky jibe at Daniil Medvedev’s act of kindness at the Cincinnati Masters

Daniil Medvedev, the world number one, advanced into the third round of the Cincinnati Open after defeating Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets. But he faced a shocking elimination losing to the Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in the second round of the Canadian Open where he was fighting to defend his title. This loss came after his title win at Los Cabos where he defeated Cameron Norrie in straight sets which was also his first ATP title win of the year and also registered the win without dropping any sets in the process.

The Russian has a fair share of remarkable performances this season but is yet to win another Grand Slam title after becoming the champion in 2021 at the US Open. He defeated Novak Djokovic to win his maiden Grand Slam title and is looking to defend his US Open title with the hope of retaining his top spot. He had to skip this year’s Wimbledon Championship owing to the ban on the Russian and Belarus players. Medvedev is one of the upcoming players who has proved his dominance in the era of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer.

Twitter fans are skeptical about the kind gesture shown by Daniil Medvedev at Cincinnati

Medvedev is known for his long return of service and possesses one of the best backhands has time and again failed to control his emotions on the court and resorted to altercations with the players or even the audience at times. After his loss to Kyrgios, he had a small and nasty argument with a fan which did not go down well with the people. But soon, his other act stunned the people where he stayed back till late hours post his win against Zandschulp at Cincinnati to sign autographs for the audience all around the court. Fans are skeptical about such a behavioral change and question his antics as a publicity stunt or his change in attitude for the good.
